As part of the National Space Day celebration, SWFT will also announce the winner of the National Space Sustainability Competition on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. MDT. The competition, open to students nationwide, showcases innovative ideas and projects related to space sustainability and orbital debris. Additionally, a special National Space Day video will premiere, featuring science communicator Emily Calandrelli — who made history as the 100th woman to fly to space — exploring these critical topics for students in grades 3–12.

Space Workforce for Tomorrow (SWFT) is excited to present this year’s National Space Day – an extraordinary celebration that brings together a dynamic event and an inspiring competition!
In collaboration with NASA and the U.S. space industry, teachers across the country will lead their classrooms through an immersive experience that explores the science and technology shaping our future—on Earth and beyond. This year, we’re expanding our reach with an engaging competition that invites 7th and 8th grade students to showcase their creativity and innovative ideas about the future of space exploration in the Space Sustainability Competition.
Highlights of this year’s National Space Day:
- Competition on Orbital Space Debris: Begin the celebration by diving into our exciting competition focused on tackling the challenge of orbital space debris. Students are invited to submit creative solutions and innovative ideas, with outstanding entries earning special recognition.
